Saluda woman reports kidnapping in Johnston web posted August 24, 2006 JOHNSTON – A Saluda woman came to the Johnston Police Department to report her child being kidnapped by the child’s father’s family members. The woman told police that she called the child’s father and asked him to purchase some baby supplies. Later in the day the father’s mother and niece came to the woman’s home with the requested items and wanted to see the baby. The mother replied the baby was still at the babysitter’s house in Johnston. When the mother went to pick up the child from the sitter the child was not there. According to police reports, the father’s mother and niece went to the sitter’s home and told her the mother gave them permission to take the child. Police contacted the sitter who confirmed the encounter. Johnston Police Chief Aston made contact with the women and told them they needed to bring the child back to the mother and that criminal charges could result from their actions. An exchange was made at the Johnston Police Department later. Chief Aston said right now the case was being reported as a kidnapping and it would depend upon the mother of the baby as to if charges would be filed. The case remains active at this time. For
