Burglary report leads to manhunt in Johnston area
web
posted August 28, 2009
JOHNSTON – The
Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Office and Johnston Police were called by the Saluda County Sheriff’s
Office to aid in a manhunt to capture a burglar seen running from
property on Stretch Road, just inside the Saluda County line off
Highway 23. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Bloodhound Team also
responded to track the suspect.
The burglary took place between noon and 1 pm when two residents
reported seeing a black male running from the scene and discovered the
burglary. Officers converged on the area and began patrolling McCreight
Road, Beach Creek, Tidewater Road, and the surrounding area as the
bloodhound team tried to track the suspect.
According to information obtained on the scene, the Bloodhound Team
tracked the suspect but lost the trail.
One man who was detained by Johnston Police as a possible suspect was
arrested, however, the arrest stemmed from a disorderly conduct charge
unrelated to the burglary. Two witnesses were unable to positively
identify the man in custody as the man they saw running from the scene.
His identity was not available at this writing.
