Johnston Woman Arrested for Hit and Run of Pedestrian

web posted September 5, 2012

JOHNSTON – A Johnston woman has been charged for hitting a 22-year-old woman while she walked down Addison Street with her boyfriend late Thursday night. The couple called 911 after the woman was struck by a passing Ford Explorer that failed to stop after the collision. EMS transported the injured woman to Aiken Regional for a possible fractured shoulder and the driver, 25-year-old Ashley Le'Vay Martin, was taken into custody early Friday morning.

Johnston Police, working off the information provided by the injured woman and her boyfriend, identified Martin and she was located at 1:20 am Friday and taken into custody. She was found to have been driving under suspension for a recent DUI charge at the time of her arrest.

Martin was arrested and charged with driving under suspension for DUI and hit and run with bodily injury and booked into custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center. She was released Tuesday morning on a total of $2,675 in personal recognizance bonds (no bond posted).

The case has been transferred to General Sessions Court for the felony hit and run charge. No court date is available at this time.

Requests for a booking photo from the Edgefield County Detention Center were not honored by press time.
