Student arrested at school for Aiken County burglary

web posted September 16, 2009
JOHNSTON – The investigation into a burglary in Aiken County on Sunday has led to the arrest of a Strom Thurmond High School student on Tuesday. Danarius Montrell Garrett, 18, was taken into custody at the high school by a Resource Officer after it was learned there were warrants for his arrest. He was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center where he was booked and held for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

According to information obtained shortly after the arrest, Garrett is accused of being involved in an Aiken County burglary on Sunday with two other unidentified black males. Witnesses approached the three and confronted them before Garrett jumped in the car and fled the scene. Among the items reported stolen was a 54” flat screen TV and an X-Box gaming system. The location of the burglary was not available.

Armed with descriptions of the suspects, the type of car (an older brown Cutlass Supreme), and a tag number, Aiken County Sheriff’s Investigators were able to identify Garrett who was later picked out of a photo lineup and a warrant was issued for burglary in the second degree.

The car Garrett was driving was found parked in the bus drivers’ parking lot at JET Middle School. The car was photographed but was not impounded.

An Investigator from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office arrived and positively identified the car Garrett was driving as the one he was looking for in his investigation, including the tag number. After leaving the scene the investigator transported Garrett to the Aiken County Detention Center for booking on the formal charges.
