Woman Airlifted from Crash Scene in Johnston

web posted September 26, 2012

JOHNSTON – A single car crash on Ridge Road near Long Cane Road resulted in the driver being airlifted to the Trauma Center in Augusta. The crash took place just after 10 pm Tuesday with reports that the car the woman was driving had collided with a tree. Shortly after the first rescue personnel arrived, a helicopter was called to be respond due to the injuries of the female driver.

Reports from the scene are incomplete, however; a landing zone at the intersection of Long Cane Road and Weaver Road was secured for the air transport.

According to early information, the woman was not responsive but was breathing and suffered from facial and head injuries. She later regained some consciousness and became combative with rescuers. It is believed she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

There is no information available on how the woman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an 8 to 10 inch hardwood tree causing significant damage to the vehicle or her current condition.

Edgefield Daily will continue to follow this story with updates as they become available.
