Service
of warrant leads to three arrests
web
posted September 29, 2007
JOHNSTON – An Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Deputy serving an arrest warrant got more than he bargained for on
Thursday afternoon when he arrived at the woman’s home on the 100 block
of Wren Street in Johnston. According to police reports when the woman
opened the door the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming
from the home.
When asked if she had been smoking drugs she replied “yes”, reports
indicate, and she then presented the unsmoked portion of a marijuana
cigarette in an ashtray. While Latasha Tamika Wright, 26 of Wren Drive
was being arrested her father, Otis Jones Jr., 49, walked over from a
nearby home and began using profanity towards the deputy.
Once additional deputies arrived, Mr. Jones, who was reported to have a
“smelled strongly of an alcohol beverage”, was arrested for disorderly
conduct. Subsequent to his arrest he was found to be in possession of
a, “small clear pipe,” believed to be used for smoking crack cocaine,
was confiscated for evidence and its contents sent for testing.
Meanwhile another man, identified as Johnny Fuller, 48, also entered
the scene and began cursing the deputies. After being warned several
times to go to his home Mr. Fuller was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Before deputies left the scene they asked Ms. Wright if she had any
additional drugs and she stated “yes”, reports show. She then led
deputies to a closet where she provided officers a clear plastic baggie
containing what is believed to be marijuana.
According to incident reports, Ms. Wright was charged with the
outstanding warrant for a person is charge placing a child at risk of
harm and will be facing an additional similar charge and possession of
marijuana. Mr. Jones will be charged with possession of marijuana and
Mr. Fuller was charged with disorderly conduct.
Ms. Wright’s mother came to the scene and took custody of Ms. Wright’s
five year old son.
