 JOHNSTON
– Three men have been arrested
and will be facing charges for the armed robbery of the Johnston Hong
Kong Chinese Restaurant owner and his family on August 14 at the
family
home. Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said Monday evening that his
Department, with the help of the Edgefield Police, the Sheriff’s Office
Investigative Division, and SLED, “got a break in the case that lead to
us solving the crime.”
Chief Aston said they began following leads early in the case and the
joint effort of all agencies paid off. “I have nothing but praise for
the Sheriff’s Office and Edgefield (Police) for their hard work,” Chief
Aston said adding accolades for those in his department as well for
their efforts.
Arrested Monday afternoon was Alvin Phillips, 17, and his cousin Bryan
Jordon Phillips, 19. They are being held at the Edgefield County
Detention Center on a single charge or armed robbery. A third suspect,
K. C. Langford, age unknown, is currently incarcerated in Aiken County
on unrelated charges and a “hold” has been placed on him to be returned
to Edgefield County to face an armed robbery charge here as well.
Additional charges may be pending in the case that could include the
possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Chief Aston said tips from citizens received over the course of the
investigation played an important part in solving the crime. “It was a
combined effort of law enforcement and citizens,” that lead to the
arrests, Chief Aston said.
The three are not, at this time, considered to be suspects in the most
recent
armed robbery of another Johnston business owner as he arrived
at his home from work on September 11, Chief Aston said.
