Ridge Spring Man Sought after Brutal Attack on Johnston Woman

web posted October 4, 2012

JOHNSTON – Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance on the 400 block of Old Plank Road just after 11 pm Tuesday night that led to multiple incident locations and a brutal beating of a Johnston woman that includes her attacker allegedly running her off the road to continue the attack after she fled the initial attack. Edgefield County and Saluda County Deputies searched the area in an effort to locate the suspect to no avail.

According to an incident report released on Wednesday, the woman was at a friend's house when the Ridge Spring man arrived and began augments with those present, including the Johnston woman. The woman told the deputy the man then hit her in her face with a "closed fist" causing the first of many injuries she received.

The man then went outside of the home and used a stick to bust out the windshield of her car. When the woman got into her car to flee, the man followed her in his truck, striking her vehicle several times causing her to lose control and run off the road.

At that time the man approached the woman and pulled her from her car and drug her by her hair down the roadway causing injuries to her back before again beating her with punches using a closed fist.

The man then fled the scene.

Deputies reported they needed EMS to respond due to the woman being "hurt bad". The arrived and transported the woman to the Aiken Regional Hospital for treatment. He condition was unknown. The incident report indicated the injuries were visible and were documented.

Warrants for the man's arrest were being sought on Wednesday. Charges, though not verified, could include assault and battery in the second degree, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and malicious injury to personal property among others.

Until warrants are confirmed, the man's identity is not being released.
