  Johnston business hit by smash and grab burglary web posted October 14, 2009 JOHNSTON – A Johnston business was the scene of a weekend burglary after the front door glass was found shattered and a portion of the store ransacked when officers arrived to check out an alarm call a 1:42 am Sunday. Police found a large stone inside the store they believed was used to break into the H&K Foodmart on Lee Street. Officers entered the building and found no one inside, however; the area around the cash register had items scattered on the floor. According to incident reports, at least $700 in cash was taken and an estimated $180 in merchandise. The countertop and surrounding area was processed for evidence and officers were able to gather fingerprints from the crime scene. The business owner arrived on the scene to secure the building and its contents until repairs could be made. The case is currently under investigation.
