  Johnston Man Flown to Trauma Center after Collision web posted October 18, 2012  JOHNSTON – A 57-year-old
Johnston man
driving a tractor with a bush hog on Edisto Street was struck from
behind by a Chevrolet Suburban as the tractor was attempting to make a
left turn on to Mobley Street around 3 pm. The man was thrown from the
tractor during the collision and was trapped between the two vehicles
with his legs pinned underneath the tractor.EMS and First Responders were able to free the man from underneath the tractor and immobilized him as they treated his injuries. A helicopter was already enroute to a landing zone next to Forrest Tire at the intersection of Highways 121 and 191. It was on the ground and waiting on the ambulance by the time EMS drove away from the scene.  According to information gathered at
the scene, the man driving the
tractor and the driver of the SUV were both heading down Edisto Street
in the same direction. The driver of the tractor was well into his left
turn when the woman driving the SUV tried to pass. The SUV struck the
tractor on the front passenger side of the SUV knocking the front
wheels off the tractor. The tractor then spun and slid along the passenger side of the SUV before both came to a stop. The condition of the Johnston man was said to be serious, but no other information about injuries were available. The woman driving the SUV was cited as being at fault in the collision.
