Johnston man arrested after sword attack
web
posted November 4, 2009
JOHNSTON – A Johnston man has been
arrested after attacking his wife’s son after he barged into the family
home on Monday night only to be confronted by the father with a sword.
The first report to officers stated the son was attacked with a
chainsaw, but after officers arrived they found the son with a large
gash to his left hand caused by a double edge sword and bleeding
heavily. According to incident reports, the father told officers, “he
intended to kill the victim for disrespecting his mother, but missed”.
Johnston and Edgefield Police as well as Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on
the scene a short time later to secure the scene and allow EMS workers
to treat the injured man. The sword was taken into custody as evidence.
Cheynne Hill, 44, was arrested and charged with assault and battery of
a high and aggravated nature, but Police Chief Chris Aston said Tuesday
that the case is still under investigation and charges could be pending
on both men. “We’re still trying to interview everyone involved,” Chief
Aston said.
Chief Aston said they were unsure of how the 29-year-old victim gained
access to the home and what his intentions were. “Right now we don’t
know why he was there and what took place.” Aston said the case is
still under investigation and additional charges could be filed and
could include both parties involved.
“Until we get all sides of what happened, we still need to interview
the mother, we can’t determine what his (the son’s) intentions were.”
The victim was transported to Aiken Regional Hospital for treatment of
the injury to his hand after losing a great deal of blood from the
wound. Hill was still being held Tuesday on the single charge.
Chief Aston said his lead investigator Lamaz Robinson was in charge of
the case and would be able to provide additional information when the
investigation had been completed.
