Johnston home site of shooting death

web posted November 18, 2006

JOHNSTON – Johnston Police, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies, SLED, and all other available law enforcement officers were called to the scene of a shooting on the 100 block of Aiken Avenue, in Johnston, Saturday night. A Johnston man was said to have been shot twice at close range in his home just after 6 pm. A person of interest has been taken to the Johnston Police Department for questioning. SLED’s Crime Scene Unit was summoned to the scene and is said to be taking over the investigation.

Though no details were available at this writing, generally handing the investigation over to SLED indicates there is possible connections to law enforcement or the court system as local agencies do not investigate their own departments.

Off duty officers were brought to the scene to assist in crowd control as a large contingent of area residents began encroaching the location. EdgefieldDaily.com will have more of this story Monday.

The death marks the second in the county this year. Gwendolyn Wilson, 25 was murdered by her husband Maurice Kenneth Wilson, 32 in late February. Mr. Wilson committed suicide in the Edgefield County Detention Center shortly after being taken into custody.

SLED crime scene units arrived on the scene around 8 pm.
