Two Charged, One Sought after Johnston Man Beaten During Home Invasion

web posted November 20, 2012

JOHNSTON – Two people have been arrested and a third suspect sought after entering the home of a Calhoun Street man and beating him in an effort to collect a drug debt Friday night just after 10 pm. Nicole Tamika Butler, 26, of Addison Street (Left), and 22-year-old Mario Martin, of the same address, have been arrested in connection to the home invasion and beating of a Johnston man in his home. A third suspect, Vincent Londell Bly, 46, of Sandra Drive is still being sought, Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said.

According to Chief Aston, Ms. Butler and one of the other suspects approached the victim earlier and attempted to collect a $40 debt owed to Butler's boyfriend for crack cocaine sold on credit just before he want to jail. The victim got away from them and went home.

A short time later Butler is said to have returned with Martin and Bly and entered the home of the victim. One of the men held the victim down in a chair while Butler beat the victim about the face while the other held down his roommate while the attack took place. The roommate was uninjured.

When officers arrived they found the victim bleeding heavily from his mouth and nose and his shirt torn and bloody.

Butler was taken in to custody a short time later and booked on charges of assault and battery in the third degree, kidnapping and housebreaking. Mario Martin was located later and booked on the same charges.

Chief Aston said they are still holding warrants for the arrest of Vincent Londell Bly, 46, who is described as a black male standing 5' 8" tall weighing around 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

It is believed more serious assault charges may be forthcoming against the trio.

Butler and Martin are currently being held on a total of $17,000 in surety bonds each.
