![]() Cause of death released in murder case web posted November 21, 2006 JOHNSTON – More information was revealed on Monday in connection to the alleged murder of Gregory Jones in Johnston on Saturday. Presently Ollie Dwight Hall, 59, of McCreight Street, Johnston, remains in custody at the Edgefield Detention Center on a single count of murder in connection to the death. Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said he received the preliminary results of the autopsy and records indicate Mr. Jones died as a result of two gunshot wounds to the chest. “There was a laceration to the heart and lung,” killing Mr. Jones instantly Mr. Burnett said, “and another to the lung due to gunshot wounds.” The full report will not be available for about a week. According to police reports Johnston Police arrived on the scene within two minutes of the original call to find Mr. Jones already deceased. Mr. Hall was found across the street sitting on the steps of the Bethel Community Church with the gun, “still in his constructive possession,” records show. Mr. Hall and the weapon were taken into custody. Mr. Hall was transported to the Johnston Police Department for interviewing and checked by EMS workers for a laceration to his right eye and cheek area. Mr. Hall refused transport by EMS, records indicate. The case has been turned over to SLED for investigation due to Mr. Hall’s career in local law enforcement. Sources today stated that the Solicitor’s Office is also passing on the case to the Attorney General’s Office for prosecution due to the close working relationship with Mr. Hall as the Bailiff to the county court system. A date and time for a bond hearing was unavailable at this writing. No court date has been set. For
