Anonymous tip leads officers to drug arrest
web posted November 22, 2005

JOHNSTON – Johnston Police Officer Chase Harley was contacted by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office dispatch stating an unknown caller claimed a black male wearing a grey hooded sweat type jacket covered with a plaid flannel jacket was seen dealing crack cocaine around a local business on the 600 block of Railroad Avenue Friday afternoon around 5:15 pm. Officer Harley and Officer David Willis responded to the location to investigate.

When they arrived they spotted a man fitting the description and Officer Willis pulled up next to the man and called him over to his patrol car. Officer Willis patted the man down for weapons and asked to see his identification. As Officer Harley stayed with the man Officer Willis walked back to where the man was last seen on the sidewalk and found a small plastic baggie in plain sight just under the front end of a two tone Ford pick-up truck. Inside the baggie was found qhat was believed to be crack cocaine.

The man was cuffed and taken to the Johnston Police Department where he was advised of his rights and questioned. The man repeatedly denied any knowledge of the drugs. He was then transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked on charges of possession of crack cocaine.
