Man shot during late night attack in Johnston
web posted November 29, 2005

JOHNSTON – A call came in to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office around 11:18 pm Monday night reporting several people outside a home in Johnston with guns. A short time later a report of one man being shot in the leg also came in. Johnston Police Officer Lamaz Robinson arrived on the scene and reported one man had been shot in the head and requested back-up and EMS.

Officers from the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office and the Edgefield Police Department also responded to the scene located between Johnson and Walker Street behind the old motel. Edgefield County EMS stood by until officers could secure the area.

The suspected shooter left the scene on foot reportedly and his whereabouts are unknown at this writing. Edgefield County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran was summoned to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The victim was transported to the MCG Tramua Center for treatment and his condition was not made available citing privacy laws. Early reports say there were more than one victim in the shooting though that has not been confirmed. EdgefieldDaily.com will have updates throughout the day as more information becomes available.

This is the second shooting of a victim in the head in the last eight days in Edgefield County, the last being a man that was shot off Highway 25 on Sunday November 20, 2005.

Just across the county line a third man, William Powell, of North Augusta was killed during several botched carjackings in North Augusta. That suspect is also still on the loose.
