Homeowner witnesses car theft
web
posted December 10, 2008
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police and Sheriff’s
Deputies were called to a home on Calhoun Street in the early morning
hours of Tuesday when a homeowner called 911 to report multiple black
males dressed in dark clothing and stocking caps stealing a Suburban
from their driveway shortly after 1 am. As police were racing to the
scene the called told dispatchers that two of the men were in the truck
and were driving towards Edgefield and the third suspect was left
behind.
As police and Deputies converged on the area the two men jumped from
the vehicle a short distance away and fled the scene on foot. The
Sheriff’s Bloodhound Team was called to track the men and arrived a
short time later. According to available information, the bloodhounds
tracked the men in a “big U” that led around the Milliken Plant and
back out to Calhoun Street. It is believed the two were picked up by an
accomplice and were able to avoid detection.
The vehicle was recovered undamaged and processed for evidence.
The case is currently under investigation and the suspects are being
sought.
