Judge's pet injured in dog attack in Johnston

web posted December 12, 2006

JOHNSTON – Chief Magistrate Davis Parkman called police to report two dogs attacking his dog on the 500 block of Butler Street Wednesday. As the officer was responding to the call he observed two chow type dogs running from the area. The officer followed the dogs in an attempt to locate the owner. The dogs ran to a home located on the 800 block of Academy Street. The Edgefield County Animal Control Officer also responded to the call.

When the two officers exited their patrol vehicles the two dogs began growling and barking. The dogs then began becoming more aggressive and began approaching the officers. The Animal Control Officer drew his gun as the dogs continued to aggressively approach and fired once towards the dogs, shooting into an embankment where the two dogs were.

The dogs appeared startled by the gunshot and ran towards the rear of the home. The owners were located and one freely signed her dog over to the police. The second owner secured his dog. Both were given summons for having an animal running at large. The second owner had been warned previously about the same problem.

Judge Parkman’s dog was taken to a local vet to be treated for the injuries received in the attack.
