Johnston fireworks stand reports theft of over $600 in merchandise

web posted December 19, 2006

JOHNSTON – Another Johnston business reported a break-in on Saturday morning, this time to a fireworks stand on Calhoun Street. A man walking his dog flagged down a passing officer to report he believed the fireworks stand had been vandalized. Upon further investigation it was found the stand had been burglarized. The owner of the business arrived a short time later and told police that over $600 in fireworks had been stolen.

The owner of the business told police he could identify the fireworks due to his selling certain fireworks that, “no one else sells around here”, police reports indicate. A witness that lives near the stand told police they saw three boys around the stand the night before and noticed a light on but did not think much of it.

In all $672 worth of fireworks were taken from the business and about $350 in damages were done to the structure to gain entry.

The case has been turned over to Johnston Police Investigators for follow up. Evidence was collected at the scene as well as photographs taken.
