web
posted December 30, 2009
JOHNSTON – A Johnston man is in jail after
being charged with assault and battery with the intent to kill in a
Christmas Eve incident at the Budget Inn at 249 Lee Street that left
one man with two head wounds. John Cleveland Harris, 38, is currently
being held on a $25,000 bond stemming from the attack.
According to police reports, the victim was walking from door to door
at the Inn knocking on doors and was seen walking into the room of Mr.
Harris. A short time later he was found outside the door on the ground
bleeding from a wound to his eye and the back of his head.
Edgefield County EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim
to MCG for treatment. His condition was unavailable.
Mr. Harris, reports state, admitted to striking the victim with a board
after claiming the victim had a knife. Reports did not mention a knife
being recovered at the scene or from the victim.
The dispute that led to the confrontation involved money given to a
third party, reports state.
