Letter to the Editor

Family Thanks Community for Support after Pre-Christmas Fire

web posted January 25, 2011

Dear Editor,
My family and I would like to offer our sincere appreciation and thanks to the residents of Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties for the love, compassion and generosity shown to us when our home burned on December 6th, 2010. Through you, God has richly blessed us when the darkest hour was upon us. God's grace protected all nine of us at 2:15 in the morning when the fire swept through our home and burned it to the ground.

Within 20 minutes the home was unrecognizable; after 45 minutes there was nothing but the remaining ash, soot and sickening smell of what earthly possessions we had acquired in our 40+ years. Through this tragedy we quickly realized that the protective hand of God was covering us. Even though He allowed two family pets to be taken, none of the six children ages 8 - 18, my wife nor I had so much as a hair singed.

The list of organizations and businesses that assisted with monetary and household contributions to help us recover so quickly most certainly can not be fully recognized.

There were so many assisting that a complete list may never be compiled. I do know that the Red Cross of Aiken, ACTS, Jim Satcher Motors, Carolina Machine Engines, Richardson's Florist, WKSX 92.7, Pettigrew Properties, and EdgefieldDaily.com were extremely gracious in their services and contributions.

The outpouring of support by the local churches was breathtaking and Heaven sent.

A special thanks goes to Janet Meares, Amanda McElveen, Ruth Ann McCann and all Satchers at Jim Satcher Motors for their unfailing support and coordination efforts.

With God's grace through you, we were in a home for Christmas and we all received gifts and necessities beyond measure. The unseen gift that we will all forever remember is the gift of love from a community that gave so much, so willingly, so freely and so openly in our time of need.

Thank you and may God richly bless you for your true expressions of His love.

Sincerely,
David and Sherrie Taylor and Family
