Letter to the Editor

Newt 2012 County Co-chairs Thank Edgefield County for Victory

web posted January 25, 2012

Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Newt 2012 campaign, we would like to thank the voters of Edgefield County for their outstanding support for Newt Gingrich in Saturday's Republican presidential primary. Newt’s 60 percent of the vote in Edgefield County was the highest percentage vote received by any candidate in any county in South Carolina.

Thanks to everyone who made calls, put up signs, sent emails and spoke up in support of Speaker Gingrich.

It is most impressive that precincts throughout Edgefield County stuck together in their strong support for Newt. Sticking together and sending a united message is good for our county. For example, Newt received 61% in Merriwether 1, 64% in Edgefield 1, 59% in Johnston 2, 61% in Westside, 65% in Northside and 60% in Trenton.

In addition, the turnout of 3489 voters far exceeded the 2008 republican presidential primary turnout of 2521 voters. Even if Newt was not your first choice, thanks for getting to the polls and voting. Well done Edgefield County.

This election is far from over. The next primary will be held in Florida on January 31st. We would encourage all Newt supporters to contact their family and friends in Florida and urge them to support Newt Gingrich in the upcoming election. For further information, they may go to newt.org.

Thanks again to the voters of Edgefield County.

Tom Plowden and John Pettigrew
Edgefield County Co-chairmen, Newt 2012
