Writer claims School District and Sheriff's Office ignoring threats to
student
web
posted March 6, 2009
Dear Editor,
Strom Thurmond High School parents beware! A very dear friend of
mine has a daughter who is new to Strom Thurmond high and has
unfortunately found herself to be the target of a high school
coward. This coward has attempted to extort money from this young
lady and has made a serious threat against her if she doesn't
pay. He has threatened to "tie her up and he and his friends will
rape her".
Yes, I said RAPE her. This was not reported to school authorities
immediately. With the young lady being new to the school and
knowing no one, she was intimidated and unsure of what to do. A
couple of incidents and three weeks later she and her parents after
much encouragement went to school administrators for help. I am
disappointed to say it was a waste of time. They questioned the
young man who admitted to trying to get money from her but as expected,
denied the serious threat. No further action. No
discipline. Nothing. I wonder if this is because the young
man is the son of a Parker Elementary School teacher?
This is unacceptable! How would you feel if this was your
daughter? I know this family and the young lady very well and
they are good, honest people. The young lady is well mannered,
beautiful inside and out and has a very bright future ahead of
her. What a shame she has been welcomed to our high school with
this incorrigible individual's behavior! Shame, shame on
you Strom Thurmond High administrators for your lackadasical attitude
and failure to address this very serious situation with little more
than a so called "stern talking to".
It is my opinion that if it were not for the fact this student is the
son of a fellow school official this situation would most certainly
have been taken more seriously and at least some sort of disciplinary
action would have been taken. What has to happen to this young
lady before the school decides to take this seriously?
If I were a student or the parent of a student attending Strom Thurmond
High School I would be extremely concerned.
