Writer Calls for Edgefield County School Superintendent’s Resignation
web
posted March 11, 2009
Dear Editor,
When a fellow citizen wrote and
suggested that we should watch the scores of our schools and their
possible downturn, it was suggested we wait and watch during the next
two years. It is imperative this community gets involved and demands
the Superintendent’s resignation NOW!
There is a worrisome trend being set by the current
Superintendent. And if you look hard enough,
you will find that the last two school districts the Superintendent
came from were an absolute reflection of her feckless management.
However, what is more disturbing is this Superintendent has been
consistent in putting her own agenda, her own personal gain, her own
performance evaluation and elevated statistics above the safety and
welfare of our children. As parents, we should all be outraged
that the Superintendent regards her own achievement above the lives of
our children.
Recently, we have seen how the Superintendent handles incidents in our
schools involving
threats of violence, and more recently, the Superintendent has
withheld information from the School Board regarding incidents
involving weapons and drugs in our schools, and when questioned by a
Board member, she stated she forgot, not once, but twice. Is this
what we pay her $125,000/year for-to forget? It appears her lapse
in memory is more directed at protecting her reputation and statistics
and not our children. If memory serves us correctly, the previous
Superintendent briefed the School Board on all incidents, most of the
time, before the ink was dry on the incident report.
The cavalier attitude demonstrated by this Superintendent towards
violence, weapons, and drugs in our schools cannot, and should not, be
tolerated, and the parents of this community should be outraged.
Moreover, maybe it is time to circulate a petition to have her removed,
and we should petition the Department of Education in Columbia,
SC. This cannot continue.
Although the taxpayers would have to fulfill the Superintendent’s
contractual obligation when the Superintendent is removed, we all know
the value of the Superintendent’s contract is a paltry sum compared to
the life of even one child, regardless of ethnicity or which part of
the County the child resides. PARENTS-WAKE UP!
