Letter to the Editor

Mayor thanks Heritage Corridor for tours

web posted April 1, 2009
Dear Editor,
The Heritage Corridor helped arrange a bus tour to Edgefield last week. Tour buses carrying 70 senior adults from Furman University of Lifelong Learning visited.  Their class was studying the time period of Reconstruction to 1900 and spent the day in Edgefield as part of their study.  They visited the Freshwater Coast Discovery Center, Ike Carpenter’s stand, Oakley Park Museum, Old Edgefield Pottery, the Furman Monument, the Archives, the Courthouse, the Tompkins Library, and ate at the Old Edgefield Grill.

Whitney Ellis, Anna Joyner, and Bettis Rainsford were the tour guides.

The Heritage Corridor brings bus tours to Edgefield on a regular basis. Each tour brings an economic impact into the community.  I want to thank the Heritage Corridor and all the people involved with these tours for the positive impact that Edgefield County receives from their efforts.

Sincerely,
Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham
