Columbia TEA Party Supports Disapproval for Amazon Tax Deal

web posted April 29, 2011

Dear Editor,
So Amazon is now going to pack up, move on and take 1,200 new jobs with them. Although we are disappointed that we will not gain those new jobs I am pleased that South Carolina Legislatures sent a message that it is no longer business as usual in SC. The taxpayers of this state deserve better, why should we foot the bill of a huge corporation to move to SC, set up shop, and have a distinct advantage over local companies who are already here.

Those who already invested their own money to compete in a free market without a special incentive deal from our lawmakers.

Critics of ours will say if we don't cut a deal, some other state will, and we will lose those jobs to them. I put that in the same category as selling your soul for temporary gratification.

While we can and should look for ways to lure new business's, we need to create an environment that is fair and encourages the Free Market principles that this country was founded on. We need tax reform that does not create loopholes that give those who can afford it, a distinct advantage.

We in the Columbia TEA Party are tired of these special interest deals that are being made by those who can afford lobbyist while others who are playing by the rules are left fighting for crumbs.

Allen Olson
Chairman
Columbia TEA Party
