Writer seeks support group for Autism in Edgefield County
web
posted May 7, 2008
Dear Editor:
My family and I have just started a journey that we were not prepared
to start. Our youngest child, our two year old son, has been
diagnosed with Autism.
We have finally past the point of panic and he is making positive head
way with the help of Babynet. However, we do feel like we are all
alone in the county. We have discovered that there are support
groups in Aiken, but with one child in 150 having autism we feel that a
local group would be beneficial for those of us in Edgefield Co. that
are taking this journey of Autism recovery.
There are so many questions that we can not answer about autism because
we are new to it. A network of families would make this more
bearable for us. We have questions about the needs that are child
will have in school. We would like to know what methods of
treatment have had the most success in autistic children in our
area. A support group that has experienced parents might benefit
all of us.
I ask that only parents of autistic children contact me. We have
had quite a few second hand referrals, but I would feel less intrusive
with first hand contact with parents of autistics.
Fell free to contact me or my wife Cynthia @ 637.9552 before 8:30 in
the evening
