Letter to the Editor

Writer clarifies points in earlier letter

web posted June 3, 2009
Dear Editor,
Perhaps I should have been more clear with my recent letter regarding the mainstream media and its liberal bias.  First off, I have never met, nor do I know the gentleman who formerly served as the ROTC Instructor at STHS. In addition, I have only this morning learned of the problems he and his son have had with the Edgefield County School District. Furthermore, I did not see the recent television interview with his son concerning his problems at school.

I was simply trying to draw attention to the fact that I've witnessed this liberal media bias first hand during my career in television.  It was in no way meant to deal with the Edgefield County School District situation.  If I gave readers that impression I'm very sorry.

However, I must respond to the person who advised me through Wandering Minds that I simply turn the channel if I didn't like what I was watching.  No sir, for too long we've simply turned the channel.  For too long we've turned a blind eye to corrupt politicians and liberal leaning judges who have tried to re-write our Constitution.  We've changed the channel instead of standing up for what is right, instead of organizing and demanding more of our leaders.  For too long we've allowed the minority to make policy simply because we were to lazy to get out and vote.

We've changed the channel as our education system has failed our children, all of our children, black and white.  We've changed the channel instead of fighting for term limits in Washington.  We've changed the channel as our country has slowly become only a shell of what made her at one time, the greatest nation on earth in the eyes of all people. No sir, I for one am tired of simply changing the channel.

I for one am ready for change, change that must begin at the local level.

John L. Brown Jr.
