Letter to the Editor:  Writer Offers Support for Pettigrew

web posted June 6, 2016

Dear Editor,

John Pettigrew is an authentic leader who is passionate about the needs of the citizens of Edgefield County and South Carolina. He is a man with great integrity and character who is a good neighbor and takes initiative to be informed about current affairs and get involved in community development and growth. I have had the pleasure of working closely with John since his appointment to the Board of Trustees for Edgefield County Hospital (ECH) in March of 2015. He takes his commitments very seriously and has demonstrated an ability to make good business decisions by considering differing opinions, examining the facts and being mindful of possible strategic outcomes.

John has been instrumental in helping the new hospital administration get on the right path and collaborate with our community physicians to ensure ECH will sustain as a valuable community resource to meet the healthcare needs for area residents. John deserves the credit for saving the hospital $500,000. He identified an opportunity to reissue and change two revenue bonds to general obligation bonds which saved 3% interest and cut the terms from thirty years to fifteen years. He is dependable, does his homework and keeps commitments. He can agree to disagree and continue to be respectful in his interactions. The board and administration respect John and value his expertise because he does ask questions and is not satisfied with doing things the way they have always been done.

As someone who is not a native of Edgefield or South Carolina, I do not have as much history with the ‘good old boy’ politics; my observations and judgments are based on current practices. My husband and I are thankful we established our home in Edgefield nine years ago. We both love the community, and John and Mary Allison were one of the first neighbors to make us feel so welcome to the neighborhood. John is genuine and sincere about his desire to be our State Senator for District 25. His motivation is to make a difference and improvements for our roads, education and other aspects to enhance the quality of life for our citizens; his ambition is not to be a career politician.
I am proud to display his sign in our yard and provide this letter of support. Vote for change by voting for John Pettigrew for Senate District 25 in the Republican Primary on June 14.

Connie Sutton
