Letter
to the Editor
Wondering Foolishly!
web
posted September 11, 2009
Dear Editor,
I am foolishly, wondering, if Mr. Jackson, should read his own letter
to the Editor more carefully. Mr. Jackson's letter was defending
"Wandering Minds", and the right of the people to express their
opinions. Yet the citizens that have expressed an opinion that
differed with the Editor and his friends, were called obnoxious, ill
informed, uninformed, mealy mouthed individuals, that act as puppets.
I have written to "Wandering Minds" with praise for Mr. Rainsford, Mr.
Pettigrew, and Mayor Durham, but in that posting, there was not one
time that I felt the need to call names, nor put down the opinion of
others in any way.
I read Mr. Rainsfords letter in the other paper, that was disscussed
for so long. It, also ,was written in defense of himself, without
calling names. He understands as ,I do, that it does not have to
be personal. In politics or business, we can disagree without
attacking each other.
The attack by the Editor, on Mr. Pettigrew, was totally uncalled for,
but I would not attack him, even though I strongly disagree with
him. What needs to be remembered is that when the Edtor, puts his
opinion in print, there are some people that automatically believe it
to be fact, not opinion, because of his position as Editor. These
comments should also be weighed before printing. But that is just
my opinion!
I could, make a negative comment about alot of people and their
opinions, but I don't feel, I have the right to attack them personally,
just because I don;t agree with them. I try to see the person for
all they have done, good and bad. And I will always believe that
the gentlemen that have been attacked in "Wandering Minds" have done
more good for this county than bad, and should be treated with the
respect they have earned. And just because this opinion differs
from yours, I should also be treated respectfully, and not attacked.
Mr. Jackson does not know me, nor do I know him. I don't agree
with him. I should not be called, mealy mouthed, etc., just
because we disagree. I don't agree with him, but I respect his right to
his opinion.
Thanks for letting me express my opinion,
John A. Edwards, Sr.
Edgefield
Editor's note: In
full disclosure; in the recent
letter by Mr. Rainsford he calls the Editor a liar, mean-spirited,
a cancer, hateful, intimidating, racist, evil, prejudice, hate filled,
venomous, and un-Christian, just to name a few.
