Writer offers reward for stolen trailer

web posted September 23, 2010

Dear Editor,
I must say that this is not the same county that I came to love 40 years ago when I moved to Edgefield County. There seems to  be  a new law every month , that limits our freedom  and the constant stealing that  is going on  and the crime in the county makes me wonder if I have entered another world, maybe I am in  New York City and just don’t know it?

An example is, I had trouble with my small golf cart trailer on highway 23 West of Edgefield about two miles while pulling it to my farm today. Since the fender was bent against the wheel, I left it beside the road while I went back to my house, three minutes away to get a tool to work on it and somebody loaded it up and stole it before I could return.

In less than 8 minutes someone loaded it onto their truck or trailer and took It.! Do people think that something left even for less than ten minutes on the side of the road is fair game? It belongs to somebody and no one would leave a $2000 golf cart trailer without returning for it and it was evident that it needed to have work before it was ready to travel again. Some thief simply stole it! This has made me angry enough that I would pay $500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief.

I have heard people say that they found something on the road before. If you do find something, that isn’t yours, leave it alone, someone will be back to get it.  If you saw a pickup truck on the side of the road, it does not mean it is left for anyone to take it. It means somebody will be back sooner or later to get   it or repair it and take it home.

If the person that took it reads this and will return it, there will be no problem, but if the law catches them first, I do plan to cooperate in the prosecution of the thief. Anyone that reads this or maybe saw someone loading it up on highway 23 will phone me I would appreciate your help!

Please be on the lookout for a pull type golf cart trailer with small balloon tires.  It carries two to three people in the front. A green padded flat seat with no rear seat.  This is custom made and very few were made so it is easily recognized and had a small area for   carrying items behind the seats. If anyone sees a trailer like this please contact me, I am in the phone book.
