Merriwether Fire Chief Praises Firefighters at Trenton Fire

web posted October 22, 2011
Dear Editor,
I was in Edgefield today for a meeting and the Trenton and Edgefield Fire Departments were dispatched to a structure fire at Trenton BBQ. The meeting had ended so I decided to ride in with them to check out the situation. It was my first hand look at seeing how the other county departments operate that early into a fire. Kudos' go out to all three depts. (Trenton, Edgefield and County Line) sent to the fire for their ability to tame the beast.

These crews worked feverously for more than an hour to bring the fire under control. The crews worked under adverse conditions, heavy smoke, a brisk wind and heavy fire conditions, not to mention a building with many add-ons.

They effectively tamed the beast and stopped it. These firefighter's were all doing this as volunteers to Edgefield County.

I applaud your efforts and your ability to work as a team to help our county. As the chairman of the Edgefield County Fire Board and a Fire Chief I am very proud of the job I witnessed them perform today.

Good Job to all and Thank You for doing what you do.

Chief Joey Smith
Merriwether Fire/Rescue
