Letter to the Editor

Writer claims, "A Chitty Memory"

web posted October 28, 2008
Dear Editor,
Up until a couple of weeks ago it was noticed there weren’t any Scott Chitty campaign signs. That was thought to be quite odd. Then it hit.  Maybe Chitty was intuitive enough to see that his re-election to the Edgefield County School Board was not going to happen. Could he really be that smart? Guess not. If he were, Chitty would have done for the people, and not himself or the Bishops.

Now Chitty obviously does not have too good of a memory, matter of fact, maybe he has a Chitty memory.

You see, historically, the Merriwether District generally elects someone that, like all politicians, say they are for the people. However, once this community catches on and sees the self-serving, serving one’s self, the get rid of them. In the past 15 years we have had Hazel Kitchens as County Council.  She became self-serving and out she went. Then we had ole Danny Bishop. Not much of a choice, but we could get rid of Kitchens and we did. Soon enough, Danny Bishop showed his self-serving colors.  Even more than that, Danny didn’t even live in the district, implied, and most believed, he was Clemson Alumni, tore down opponents campaign signs, and on, and on, and on.

Well, we did it again, we tossed him out once and rejected a re-election attempt.  Then came Joel Hudson. Nothing much to say there, but again we saw the feckless type of public servant that have long plagued this side of the county, but, we do throw them out. And now Chitty. Self-serving, feckless, beholden to the Bishops, complicit in running Fox Creek High School into the ground, and on, and on, and on. Guess what.  Out he goes. This community is tolerant, but surely does not have a Chitty memory.
Remember-to vote for a school board member YOU HAVE TO SPLIT your ticket.  School Board members are not party affiliated. If you don’t SPLIT YOUR TICKECT, you’re not voting for a school board member.

Jim Jackson
Merriwether

Editor's note: Voting a straight ticket and then voting will omit not only school board races but also two Constitutional Questions and the Local Question on Four year terms for County Council members. You can vote a straight ticket and then move on in the ballot to the nonpartisan races and referendums before confirming your votes.
