Letter to the Editor:

Writer "amazed" at question of Pettigrew's qualifications

web posted October 30, 2006

Dear Editor:

I am amazed at your suggestion that Mr. Pettigrew is “unqualified” for the position of County Administrator.

From a qualification standpoint, Mr. Pettigrew is a graduate of Clemson University where he served as President of the Student Body; he is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law; he is a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives; he is a former mayor of the Town of Edgefield; he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Partnership for Economic Development for Aiken and Edgefield Counties; he has been involved in countless other community organizations where he has made many positive contributions; and, finally, as a lifelong resident of Edgefield County, he has a deep and intimate knowledge of this county, its assets, its challenges and its people.  For you to question his “qualifications,” brings into strong question your credibility.

Bettis C. Rainsford

Editor's note: Mr. Rainsford is Chairman of the Edgefield County Economic Developement Committee and devolper of Mount Vintage.

Of the more than two dozen applicants received by the Upper Savannah Council on Government (USCOG) who performed the initial screening, Mr. Pettigrew's was not listed in the ten best qualified. That was not a determination of EdgefieldDaily.com, but USCOG.
