Edgefield Mayor supports "Shop Edgefield First"

web posted November 8, 2006

Dear Citizens and Merchants of Edgefield,

The holiday season is upon us!  It is hard to believe that 2007 is just around the corner.

As you may have read, a group of citizens and merchants are working with the Town to promote a Heritage Holiday Campaign.  These merchants have worked tirelessly to raise the funds necessary to effectively market the town.  Through their efforts, a great campaign is in the works…BUY LOCAL, THINK LOCAL, and BE LOCAL!

Edgefield will be promoted in magazines, newspapers, billboards, brochures, and even a television commercial.  You will notice that the town is being decorated earlier than in the past.  This is being done for many reasons.  The media will begin filming the commercial and photographing the town on the 9th of November.  A holiday commercial would not be complete without decorations.  The town events begin on November 17th with a merchant open house throughout the downtown.  We hope that you will join us in the enthusiasm of this project.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all owners and operators of downtown storefronts to join in on the holiday spirit.  The Holiday Campaign Committee encourages everyone to take the time to decorate your buildings for the holiday season.  If the committee can be of help, please let us know.

Residents do not feel forgotten!  A holiday decorating contest will be issued within the next few weeks.  Residents of Edgefield will be encouraged to light and decorate the exterior of their homes.  Surrounding area celebrities will be invited to Edgefield to scout the town for the “best dressed” home of the season.

We hope that you will join us in welcoming visitors to our community.  We want them to come and feel the southern hospitality that Edgefield has to offer in hopes that they will choose to make this a holiday tradition. I encourage you to support the shops, restaurants, and businesses throughout Edgefield this season.  Be sure to join in on the holiday celebrations.

“Shop Edgefield First!”
