Three Killed in Head-on Collision: Victims Identified

McCORMICK Three people were killed Saturday night in a violent head on collision between two pick-up trucks around 8:20 pm on Highway 28 about 7 miles south of Clarks Hill, South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Keller said in a statement. Both drivers and one passenger were trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated. Two were pronounced bead on the scene. One driver was flown to the Trauma Center where he died from his injuries.

According to information provided by SCHP, a southbound driver of a 1994 Chevrolet pickup collided with a 1994 GMC pickup. The driver of the Chevy, as well as the driver and passenger in the GMC were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Chevy was extracted and flown to the trauma center where he succumbed to injuries.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the SCHP MAIT Team.

The names of those who died were Michael Wayne Brantley, 38, who was airlifted and later died. LaChadrick Terell Freeman, 34, and LaToya Freeman, 32, died at the scene.

This marks the first three fatalities in McCormick County this year.
