Sen. Massey wins Straw Poll in McCormick Congressional Debate

web posted March 9, 2010
MCCORMICK – State Senator Shane Massey took 56% of votes in a “straw poll” after a debate of six Congressional candidates for the 3rd Congressional District Thursday night in McCormick for the seat left open by Congressman Gresham Barrett opting to run for governor. The debate, moderated by former State Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson, gave all republican candidates a chance to field questions during the 90-minute debate.

A release from the Massey campaign stated, “Senator Massey reassured voters that if elected, he will continue the reform policies that he has pushed in Columbia. He believes we can create jobs and grow our economy by stopping the government takeover of everything from the automotive industry to health care, vowing to fight wasteful pet project spending and continuing the push for offshore drilling to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.”

In the end, Sen. Massey won 53% of the vote in an area he represents in the State Senate. The complete vote totals are listed below.

Poll Results
Massey: 56%
Cash:     15%
Collins:   13%
Duncan:   9%
Rice:        8%
Vasovski: 8%
