Metro Spirit Publisher, Others Question Bike Trail Attack Report

web posted July 31, 2014

MCCORMICK Metro Spirit publisher Joe White has gone on the record questioning the report by a Lexington County man who claimed he was thrown from his bike on a trail by a rope between two trees and then three men attempted to sexually assault him as he lay unconscious on the ground. White is not the first to question the account by the victim. Several readers have posted comments questioning the account as well.

According to an incident report, the victim claimed that after being thrown from his bike one of the assailants attempted to remove his shorts to sexually assault him as the other two men stood by. He claims he was able to fight off the attackers and run, only to have a shot fired at him. The man claims he then reached for his .40 caliber Glock he just happened to have on him at the time and returned fire while making his escape.

Only one shell casing was recovered from the scene of the alleged attack, reports state.

The report raises more questions than it answers. The man at least twice refused medical attention and suffered only minor injuries after being thrown from his bike and then attacked by three men with one trying to sexually assault him.

As White correctly questions, where on the victims body was he packing a .40 caliber Glock in his shorts?

When Edgefield Daily broke the story that spread to all area media outlets on Sunday, questions were already being raised.

After gaining the woman's email address on Sunday, a request for comment was ignored. As additional media outlets began getting involved, the victim and his wife have refused contact or comment.

Are riders of the World Class FATS trails in Merriwether and the Stevens Creek Trail where the alleged attack took place in Modoc in danger of being attacked at night while riding in the dark by three men in full camo? We seriously doubt it, and we are obviously not alone.

Edgefield Daily will continue to follow our breaking story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
