Holiday events planned for McCormick

web posted October 26, 2007
MCCORMICK – The McCormick County Chamber of Commerce will partner with the Town of McCormick to sponsor several Holiday Events. Mark your calendars for both December 1, and December 8th. On Saturday evening December 1 there will be Christmas tree lighting at 7:00 p.m. in the MACK Park. The community will come together to sing Carols and light the tree and celebrate the season.

Last week you may have read an article in the Messenger about how much the people of Kandahar, Afghanistan appreciate all the school supplies that the town of McCormick sent to them. The need of our military and the people there is great.  If you would like to send things to our military or to the people in Afghanistan please bring them to the tree lighting or leave them at the Chamber of Commerce prior to December 1. The boxes of goods will be sent to Afghanistan the following week.  A list of needed items will be published here in another week or so.

Following the tree lighting there will be a contest held in the MACK of favorite Holiday beverage recipes. There will be a $50.00 prize for the winning punch or nog. Anyone wishing to enter the contest can get rules from the MACK.

The public will be allowed to sample these entries if they pay a sampling fee of $5.00 and are over 21 as some of the punches may have holiday spirit added.

On Saturday December 8th at 10:00 a.m. the annual Holiday on Main Parade will travel down Main Street. Spaces will be available at 218 South Main and 126 Augusta St. in town for arts and craft sales. If you would like a space please inquire at the Chamber office. This is a minimal fee for vendors but entry into the parade is free. Groups from all over the country are encouraged to join the fun and place an entry in the parade.

There will be a pancake breakfast at the Fire Department starting at 7:00 a.m. and there will be contests, prizes, and special activities throughout the day. The Garden club will be conducting their annual Tour of Homes December 8th. Tickets for the Tour are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 7 Daffodils, The Red Rooster, and The MACK. Plan to attend these holiday events and support your local merchants.
