Property Owner Discovers Theft, Attempted Break-in New Years Eve

web posted January 3, 2014

MERRIWETHER A Stephens Road property owner arrived to find someone had entered the gate to his property and had made off with $600 in property. He also discovered the person or persons had used a metal pipe to try to break into a shed as well and called the Sheriff's Office.

When the deputy arrive the owner stated two chrome Magnum rims, valued at $300 each, had been taken. Other property had been moved around but not stolen. The owner showed the deputy where a metal pipe that had been taken from the back of the property was found laying by the door to the shed, which had not been entered.

The deputy dusted the metal pipe for fingerprints and well as photographed the scene. The damage to the lock was estimated at $25.

The man had been at the property the day prior and nothing was missing.

A tan hat and a bag were found at the gate and were also taken into custody as evidence. The case has been turned over to the Sheriff's Criminal Investigative Division for further investigation.
