web posted January 7, 2014

MERRIWETHER Two Merriwether residents reported arriving at their respective homes Friday and finding they had fallen victim to burglars. The first report came Friday morning around 10:20 am when a family in the process of moving found a back door pried open and nearly $3,000 in guns missing.

The woman told deputies that she left the Cannon Mill home around 8 am and returned at 10:20 am and was told by the exterminator that the back door had been found open. Once inside it was found that her son's gun cabinet had also been pried pen and several guns stolen.

Among the listed guns were a Ruger Mosey Oak .22 caliber model 0486 with a serial number of 351-15321, a Browning 12 gauge shotgun with duck binding camo and a gold trigger with a serial number of 115ZZ14017, a Remington bolt action .270 with a scope, a 16 gauge shotgun with wood stock, a .20 gauge single shot shotgun and a pellet gun.

Nothing else was found missing from the home.

A second burglary, located a short distance away on the 1700 block of Martintown Road, was discovered when the owner returned Friday night shortly before midnight. The owner stated she left the home around 8 am also, but had been gone all day.

A back door was found pried open and once inside the person or persons made off with a 42" Emerson flat screen TV, a Dell laptop computer, a DVD/VCR set, a jewelry box filled with assorted diamond and gold jewelry.

Total value was estimated at $2,600.

Both cases are under active investigation and may be related.
