Accused Dog-napper Nabbed

web posted January 10, 2014

MERRIWETHER A Delaughter Drive man called the Sheriff's Office late Monday night to report someone stealing his 4-year-old Huskey valued at $1,250 from his yard. The man told the deputy that a Dock Drive woman approached him earlier stating that the dog needed to be inside due to the cold weather. Just before midnight he heard someone leaving his house and the dog was missing.

The deputy went to the woman's home and was unable to locate the dog.

On Tuesday the dog was returned and was back on the runner by the time he woke up.

When he woke up on Wednesday morning the dog was missing again, however the dog's collar was still attached to the runner, and he called the Sheriff's Office again.

While the man was on the phone with the deputy the man stated a woman was driving up in his yard with the dog around 8:30 am. While on the phone with the deputy he asked the woman why she took his dog and she replied she did so because the dog was cold, an incident report states.

The deputy asked the man to let him talk to the woman and she admitted to taking the dog. She was instructed to return to her home until the deputy could arrive.

After the deputy spoke with the dog's owner and the Dock Drive woman he charged 46-year-old Felica Floyd with theft of a dog and also placed her on trespass notice from the Delaughter Drive home.

The deputy reported the dog had appropriate shelter, bedding and food and water, according to the report.

Ms. Floyd was given a court date of February 5 at 2 pm in Magistrate Court.
