Two Arrested Vandalizing Athletic Field

web posted January 14, 2014

MERRIWETHER Two men were arrested late Sunday night after an anonymous caller reported a Jeep doing donuts on the athletic field behind Fox Creek Charter High School around 10 pm. When a Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy arrived he found the 1998 2-door Jeep Wrangler still in the field and covered with mud and the driver and passenger with the vehicle. Both men were arrested on the scene.

According to an incident report, the driver was 27-year-old Dylan Pierce Smith, of Bakers Branch Drive in Merriwether, and the passenger was identified as 31-year-old Micah Dale Swenson of Neal Street in Augusta, Ga.

Both men were charged with trespassing and Smith received a second charge of malicious injury to private property. The Jeep was towed from the scene following the arrests.

Photos of the damaged field were taken as well as photos of the Jeep before being towed.

A court date of February 26, at 10 am, was provided in an incident report released Monday. It is unknown if the misdemeanor charge of malicious injury to private property against Smith could be upgraded to a felony if the damages were to exceed $2,001.

An email to the school
concerning the damages was not responded to by press time.
