Thieves
strike another Merriwether construction site
web posted January 18, 2006 MERRIWETHER – Thieves struck again at a home under construction in Merriwether over the weekend, this time making off with thirty-three sheets of plywood worth an estimated $600. The homeowner called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft Monday morning around 9:30 am. Deputy Trek Bryant arrived a few minutes later and spoke with the man who stated he last counted the plywood before he left the site on Saturday and when he returned on Monday he noticed the plywood missing. The plywood was stacked behind the house and out of view of the road in the new Whispering Winds subdivision off Currytown Road. The subdivision was also the site of a recent report of vandalism. This is also the second theft of building materials in the area with twenty bags of mortar, sixty bundles of shingles, and a 50 lbs box of 1 1/4” roofing nails taken in that theft last week. The total value of materials stolen then was estimated to be around $1,000. The Sheriff’s Office has “stepped up” patrols in the area to prevent further thefts. For
