Burglary to Out Building Reported after Suspicious Vehicle Seen in Yard

web posted January 31, 2013

MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether man contacted the Sheriff's Office after two men in a silver or grey Chevy pickup truck were spotted parked at the Springhaven Drive home behind tall shrubbery around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. The man checked his mail and then went to speak to the two occupants of the truck and said he was stared down, which made him nervous.

He got back into his vehicle and drove to the second driveway and pulled behind the truck in order to get a license plate. It was then the two men sped across the yard and then skidded out of the other driveway. The license plate was provided to the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office Dispatchers.

Edgefield County Sheriff's Investigators were able to make contact with the owner of the truck and stated he was looking for a location two houses down; though that did not explain the spinning of tires across the front yard as they fled the scene.

At this time they are not considered to be suspects in the theft of missing property that was last checked on a week prior. It is believed the theft happened prior to the report of the suspicious vehicle reported.
