Merriwether teen uninjured in two-car crash
web
posted February 6, 2008
MERRIWETHER – A
two-car crash on Currytown
Road left a Merriwether teen shaken but uninjured just after 4 pm
Tuesday. According to the drivers of the cars involved, the teen was
traveling east on Currytown Road in a Pontiac Grand Am when she was
struck by a woman in an Infinity G35 pulling out of Currytown Station.
The impact spun the Grand Am sideways sending it into the ditch and
then up an embankment, stopping just short of a power pole.
The driver of the Grand Am stated she was hit when the driver of the
Infinity, “ran the stop sign,” and the impact spun the back end of the
car around causing her to lose control. The car impacted the ditch at a
45-degree angle before continuing some 80 yards up the embankment.
Deputies on the
scene said the teen was lucky that the way the cars
collided it did not cause the car to roll. “She held it together,” one
said. The Grand Am suffered heavy damage in the crash. The teen, who
was wearing her seatbelt at the time, was uninjured.
The Infinity suffered only minor damage to the front right bumper area.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and it is
believed that the driver of the Infinity would be facing possible
failure to yield the right of way charges, but that was not confirmed
at the scene.
The Grand Am had to be towed from the location.
