Truck found floating at boat ramp
web posted February 21, 2006

MERRIWETHER – An early morning patrol check led to the discovery of a truck found in the waters of Big Steven’s Creek at the Fury’s Ferry boat landing off Deep Step Road. Edgefield County Deputies checked the truck and found no one inside the vehicle. The door of the truck was reported as being closed at the time of discovery. McCormick County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrived on the scene along with McCormick County Fire and EMS personnel.

The boat landing and parking lot are the county line for Edgefield and McCormick Counties. The boat landing is in McCormick County and anything left of it (the parking lot) is Edgefield County.

The area around the boat landing was searched for evidence of someone climbing out of the truck after it was submerged but no evidence of disturbance was found. Deputies also searched the woods around the boat landing as well.
McCormick County Firemen attempt to pull the truck from the water
The truck reportedly belongs to a man with an address on Old Evans Road in Martinez, Georgia. It has not been reported stolen a records check found. The owner of the truck could not be contacted throughout the day.

A tow truck was called to remove the car from the water. McCormick County Fire personnel pulled the truck partially up the boat ramp with a winch and engaged the parking brake to prevent it from drifting further down into the water.  Authorities are continuing their attempts to reach the owner. It is unknown how long the truck had been in the water.

Editor's note: Although the truck apears in our pictures to be well past the Edgefield County line of the parking lot when discovered, the incident took place in McCormick County and they are handling the investigation.
