Shooting reported Monday evening

MERRIWETHER – A man was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound at a business on Highway 25 South Monday evening. The call came into dispatchers at 5:51 pm while investigators were still processing a crime scene on the northernmost part of the county. When Deputies arrived on the scene, they found the man deceased.

By 6:15 pm there was a large crowd gathering in an adjacent parking lot. Friends and family that gathered at the location said a friend the deceased was present at the time of an alleged suicide. Deputy Coroner David Burnett arrived on the scene a short time later. Investigators were still processing the scene well after 7:00 pm.

Traffic on the northbound lane of Highway 25 slowed with the many emegency vehicles parked on the edge of the road.
