Pair works in consort during theft at store
web
posted February 26, 2009
MERRIWETHER – The manager at a local
convenience store was the victim of a theft Tuesday when two men
entered Sportsman’s Corner and while one man was occupying the manager
at the register the second entered the unlocked office and took the
woman’s purse containing cash, identification, and credit cards from
her pocketbook. The theft was not discovered until hours later and a
review of video surveillance showed the two suspects working
together.
“They knew where the cameras were,” Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy
Doran said, adding they tried to avoid being taped as they entered the
store during the lunch rush hour. The two men parked on the side of the
building in an effort to conceal the type vehicle driven and then
walked along the edge of the building before entering.
The two men are described as black males, one with a blue knit cap, a
blue “Roca Wear” jacket with red letters, and the second as wearing a
brown jacket with blue jeans. The two fled the scene in a tan Ford
Explorer type SUV heading east on Martintown Road towards North Augusta.
Inv. Doran said a homeowner on the 1400 block of Martintown Road later
reported finding the woman’s wallet in their mailbox. The credit cards
and identification was still in tact and only the undisclosed amount of
cash was missing.
Additional video footage is being retrieved and EdgefieldDaily.com will
make the video or still pictures available when released. Anyone that
may have seen the two men or their vehicle at the store between the
hours of noon and 12:15 pm Tuesday is asked to call the Edgefield
County Sheriff’s Office at 803-278-1625 or 803-637-5337.
