Truck and Driver reported missing

web posted February 27, 2006

MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether business called the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office to report a driver and one of the company trucks missing. It seems the employee made his first stop at a North Augusta business at the scheduled time just before 11:00 am Thursday morning. After unloading and receiving payment, the driver departed for the next stop and never arrived.

Another company employee stated the truck was spotted on the west bound side of I-20 with the emergency flashers on. When the location was checked, the truck was not there. An alert was placed on the truck and the missing driver in South Carolina and Georgia. The driver has been employed with the company just three weeks.

Edgefield and Aiken County Deputies worked together trying to find the missing truck throughout the afternoon. Since the last reported known location of the truck was in Aiken County the truck is listed as missing from Aiken County not Edgefield County. Edgefield County Deputies still took the incident report from the company.

While finishing the incident report the driver returned with the truck around 5:30 pm. According to police reports he was terminated immediately.

North Augusta Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol were notified that the “driver was apparently intoxicated.”
